Gospel: Lk,14: 25–33
Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, "If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, 'This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.' Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple."

Trinidad & Tobago students pitch in to help Haiti rebuild Students from Trinidad & Tobago, on North Hall’s Summer 2010 Haiti Outreach Program, spent a week on reconstruction work in Haiti’s capital, Port au Prince, devastated after January’s earthquake. Huge amounts of money have been donated from around the world to help, but the process of rubble- clearing and rebuilding is desperately slow. The actual physical help of skilled and semi-skilled manual labor is often what is needed most. Guyana gets new priest after 15 years
The diocese of Georgetown, Guyana celebrated its first priestly ordination in 15 years on August 14 as Marlon Innis was ordained a priest of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Brickdam. Two bishops, a monsignor and 16 priests, including the Provincial of the British Jesuits concelebrated the Mass, with the congregation representing every parish in the diocese.  Trinidad born clergyman and Anthony Sabga Caribbean Awards For Excellence Laureate (2006), the Very Reverend Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon, was one of five persons conferred the Order of Jamaica (OJ), that country’s fourth highest award on August 6, the 48th anniversary of that country’s Independence. The Jamaican Independence Honours List, of 98 awardees for various honours, was published in the Jamaican press. |
