Papal Nuncio Visits Grenada

His Excellency Archbishop Nicola Girasola was recently a very distinguished visitor to our shores.  He came principally to present his credentials to the Governor General as is expected of every new nuncio.

But he came also to be introduced to the Church as he has been doing in the other dioceses where he was meeting the national authorities. located.

COAT OF ARMS

As the distinctive mark of his office a bishop has a hat, cords and twelve tassels placed around his shield. In coloured reproductions these are all in green. In addition there is a cross behind the shield.

Looking at Bishop Darius’ Coat of Arms, the shield is divided into three sections. At the top of the shield the bands of red, yellow and green represents the national
flag. The right section contains a black and white crest indicating the Dominican Order to which he belongs. The mountain and rising sun represent his family background. The middle section depicts the Caribbean Sea, and the Islands of the Diocese - Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The section on the left contains a Marian symbol recognizing the Virgin Mary as the patroness of the Diocese. Underneath the Coat of Arms there is a scroll with the Bishop’s motto: “Proclaim The Good News
