University students need a religious support group to see them through their tertiary education, says Bishop Gabriel

Bishop Gabriel Malzaire, AEC liaison to the Catholic Students’ Movement in the Caribbean.

Malzaire. He is the liaison between the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) and the Catholic Students’ Movement (CSM), which has clubs on the three campuses of the University of the West Indies (UWI).

The Bishop of the diocese of Roseau made the comment during an interview conducted by Secretary of the CSM Service Team at UWI’s St Augustine campus, Anna-Marie Le Blanc, in the run-up to the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Continue reading

While the youth from the Caribbean Bishops’ Conference (AEC) were packing suitcases and boarding flights to return to their respective territories and taking with them memories of another inspiring AEC Youth Assembly, representatives from across the region were gathering to reflect, plan and equip themselves for continued work in promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Resist attempts to undermine Region’s Christian values

A call has been made for Catholic youth and young adults to be of “one mind with the Church in interpreting the signs of the times” and resist any move to introduce “new definitions of marriage and family”.

The appeal came from Chair of the Caribbean Bishops Conference (AEC) Youth Commission, Bishop Kenneth Richards of St John’s-Basseterre, during his homily on Saturday July 18 at the closing Mass of the AEC Youth Assembly 2015 held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. Continue reading

“In excess of 100” pledges to recite the rosary and offer other prayers and Masses were made during the first telethon hosted by Generation S (Service) to promote vocations.

Taking the Vocation Conversation Home was the theme of the telethon held on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the studio of Trinity TV, Port of Spain.

AEC VOCATIONS WEEK 2015 - SUNDAY, JANUARY 11 TO SATURDAY, JANUARY 17

CHOSEN, CALLED, BLESSED AND SENT - EMBRACING THE FUTURE WITH HOPE

The AEC Vocations Week 2015 will begin on Sunday, January 11, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Bishops of the AEC initiated this week four years ago to ensure that in all our Arch/Dioceses of the AEC a culture of vocations will be fostered and to offer support to the Directors or Promoters of Vocations in all our Arch/Dioceses, including Religious Institutes, encouraging among them greater solidarity with each other in the vital ministry of vocations promotion. The Week was also meant to encourage prayer for vocations and ensure that clergy, religious and faithful would all be aware of their responsibility in promoting vocations. The promotion of vocations is the responsibility of all in the Church, not just a few dedicated to the cause. Continue reading

The functions of the Youth Commission are as follows:

 

  • to foster participation of youth in the life and mission of the Church;
  • to examine in depth the teachings of the Church;
  • to foster reflection on social problems and to promote the solidarity of youth in responding.
